You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How Artificial Intelligence Works and Why It’s Making the World a Weirder Place by Janelle Shane, based on its main themes, concepts, and examples. The book is a humorous yet informative exploration of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning, its capabilities, limitations, and the often bizarre results it produces. Shane, a research scientist and creator of the blog AI Weirdness, uses funny experiments, real-world examples, and charming cartoons to demystify AI for a general audience while addressing its strengths, weaknesses, and societal implications. Crux of the Book The book explains how AI (specifically machine learning algorithms) works, why it often fails in hilariously weird ways, and why it’s not the omnipotent, sci-fi-like intelligence many imagine. Shane emphasizes that AI is powerful for narrow, well-defined tasks but struggles with complexity, context, and generalization. Through entertaining anecdotes—like AI-...
Picture this: You’re a small business owner with a to-do list longer than a CVS receipt. Suddenly, your phone buzzes with a reminder for a client call you forgot about. But before you panic, your AI assistant has already rescheduled it, drafted an apology email, and suggested a quick break because it knows you’re stretched thin. For those of us who don’t speak “tech,” AI feels like a superhero sidekick—here to save the day without needing us to understand the magic behind the mask. AI is quietly revolutionizing how non-techy people handle everyday tasks like marketing, organizing schedules, or even sorting through email chaos. But don’t start imagining a robot uprising just yet—AI isn’t the sci-fi genius Hollywood promised. It’s a powerful tool, sure, but it’s got limits. While it’s a lifesaver for regular folks like us, the tech wizards still hold the keys to solving the trickiest problems. Let’s unpack why AI is such a perfect match for non-techy people—and why it’s not quite re...

The Ideal Day Is a Myth

Image
One morning, I woke up and decided that today would be my day—the day I would dedicate entirely to myself, doing only what brings me joy and fulfillment. I made a conscious choice: this day would be all about what I love, without worrying about how others perceive me or what their expectations might be. It was going to be a day of pure self-indulgence and self-care, where my happiness was the sole priority. I started the day by focusing on self-care, a nurturing ritual that made me feel good from the inside out. I prepared my favorite meals, relished each bite, and refused to let outside opinions cloud my enjoyment. I promised myself I wouldn’t think about how others view me, or waste a moment on anything that didn’t serve my happiness. The day unfolded just as I had planned. I did everything I thought would make me happy, from indulging in my hobbies to relaxing with a book. However, when the day came to an end, something unexpected happened—I didn’t feel as satisfied as I had ...

Finding Light in Darkness: A reminder for when you are feeling low

Image
A reminder for when you are feeling low When it becomes challenging to embrace self-love, take a moment to reflect on the day you were born. Your arrival undoubtedly filled your family with immense joy and happiness. Imagine the warmth in your dad's smile as he held his precious daughter for the first time. Recall the countless moments when you eagerly absorbed new knowledge, becoming a source of pride and joy for your loved ones. Your journey in life is a constant source of inspiration for your family, a blessing to your siblings, and a testament to the love that surrounds you. Every time you doubt your worth, remember the occasions when you made your parents burst with pride. In those moments, you were the embodiment of their hopes and dreams. Whenever you feel unworthy, consider the countless smiles you've brought to people's faces. Remind yourself about the days when you laughed wholeheartedly, experiencing pure happiness. You are a beacon of light, a source of positivi...

Yesterday, I finally visited Mankameshwar Mandir, a place I had wanted to go to for a long time. Upon arriving, I took Prasad and was eager to go inside the temple. However, I found the gate closed, preventing me from seeing Bhole Baba. Feeling disappointed, a friend suggested we visit another nearby temple to offer our Prasad. Despite my initial sadness, we went to the other temple. The moment I saw Bhole Baba there, my spirits lifted, and after the darshan, there I also received Prasad from Vrindavan. It dawned on me that Bhole Baba had guided me on this journey to bless me with this special Prasad. On our way back, Sandhya and I decided to have a darshan through the temple window. To our delight, we saw the Shivlinga being prepared for the evening aarti, looking absolutely beautiful. Mesmerized, we couldn't take our eyes off it. We decided to stay longer to witness the aarti and were deeply moved by the experience. This entire journey taught me a profound lesson: when God closes...

Confronting the Ghost of Failure Failure, often perceived as an intangible specter, haunts many of us on our journey towards our dreams. It lurks in the shadows, waiting for a moment of vulnerability to pounce and sow seeds of doubt and fear. Yet, like any apparition, it dissipates when confronted with courage and determination. Imagine failure as a ghost, a manifestation of our insecurities and past setbacks. It lingers behind us, whispering tales of our past mistakes and missed opportunities. But, if we dare to turn and face it head-on, something remarkable happens – its power diminishes. Confronting failure requires bravery. It demands that we acknowledge our missteps and accept them as part of our growth.  However, merely acknowledging failure is not enough. We must also use this moment of confrontation to recommit ourselves to our goals. It's a pause in the chase, a chance to regroup and refocus our energies on the path ahead. But, we must remain vigilant. The ghost of ...

Choosing Love Over Hate

Image
Choosing Love Over Hate There was a time when life seemed tough and messy for her. She realized something important - she wasn't good at hating people. Hatred didn't fit her. When she got mad or annoyed, it was usually because she either tried to dislike someone or because someone sent her negative vibes.  She once tried to be tough and unfeeling, like a "bad girl," but it just made her feel even more empty inside. She figured out that love was the only thing that made her truly happy and complete. No matter how much she was hurt, she couldn't bring herself to hate anyone.  She often wondered why she didn't receive the same love she gave to others. But over time, she realized that the love she put into the world didn't go to waste. It always found its way back to her in some way or another. Love is like a loop; it keeps coming back to you. Her journey changed the way she saw herself and how she dealt with the world. She stopped chasing hate and started e...
